$40 million available to Tribal governments through the Tribal Transportation Program Safety Fund

The U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is making over $40 million available to Tribal governments through the Tribal Transportation Program Safety Fund (TTPSF). The funding is intended to improve roadway safety and address transportation infrastructure issues for federally recognized Tribes.
The announcement indicates a shift in the criteria for grant selections, which will now be based on merit. The new policies also require recipients to certify that they comply with applicable federal anti-discrimination laws.
The TTPSF, which was first established in 2012, has previously awarded about $141 million for over 1,000 projects. The priority for the current funding round will be given to projects that integrate safety into existing infrastructure
